Area 5 launches new show; CO-OP
The former 1UP staff responsible for The 1UP Show have just launched the first project from their new company Area 5.
It’s high quality stuff, and highly indicative of the direction that I hope works out for them and games journalism in general, just as anyone else who was a big fan of the cult UK Channel 4 games review show “Bits” (which was hosted by by Aleks Krotoski, Emily Booth - aka Emily “Bouff” Bouffante, and Emily Newton Dunn) should really pick up on (and ppreciate) the vibe that their previous work on the 1UP show had, which looks to be continuing here.
The do not yet have a revenue model in place, but things are apparently in motion. Check these guys out, support them (subscribe to their Youtube channel, rate their shows, and dig them etc) if you want indie shows like this to be viable and continue. Check it out here.

I really appreciate you taking the time to write up our little gig
— it was a crazy process trying to get it out with sub-standard equipment and an audio setup that was… bizarre, but the reaction has been worth it! I hope the second half lives up to the first for ya
What you have managed to achieve is nothing short of amazing. True, it would have been compelling just to listen to you guys, but your production standards are at least on par with what I’d expect to see on television, with content that’s beyond.
The real question isn’t how you managed to work within the limits that you were lumped with, but how I could be expected not to write up on your little gig.
It would be right at home on television, and part of me really hopes you get yourself a TV deal for this show once it’s got a little more momentum.
Over here in the UK, I’d suggest Channel 4 or BBC2 as the more likely candidates.
